Lucas Raps
  • Biography

Lucaraps is a walking affirmation that actions speak louder than words.
The 20-year-old rapper who was born in Cape Town and raised in Durban’s Greenwood Park brought his music moniker to life even before the nation’s gaze was upon him. In 2019, he collaborated with Dr Peppa and became the breakout star of a song called What It Is, also featuring Riky Rick and Chang Cello. The hit was nominated for a South African Hip Hop Award and gave Lucasraps a taste of mainstream success. That year, the rising star entered the Sportscene x Puma Put Me On competition. He was up against some of the youngsters who have come to define the new school of rap and took home the title of winner. In 2020, his close friendship with fellow Durbanite, Blxckie, saw them divert the attention of music lovers from the City of Gold. They’ve done this through their collaboration on songs like Ah Ah Ah Ah and Big Time Shlappa. Lucasraps, who is managed by Bloc Agency, has also wind up on the radar of respected magazine, OKAYAFRICA, who named him one of 13 South African Artists To Watch In 2021. His latest single, Derr Boy, which has been viewed over 270 000 times, is proof.
